TL;DR: A ball machine gives you steady repetition without needing a hitting partner. Slice Club is planning it as an add-on to court bookings at its outdoor Taguig venue, priced in preview at ₱300 an hour. Members are planned to receive one complimentary hour each month.

Most players improve when they hit the same shot many times in a row. A rally rarely allows that: the ball comes back differently every time, and half the session goes on chasing mistakes. A ball machine fixes the problem by feeding a predictable ball at the pace, height and spot you choose.

Who a ball machine suits

  • Solo players who cannot find a hitting partner at 6am or 11pm.
  • Beginners who want to groove a forehand or backhand before facing a live opponent.
  • Returning players rebuilding timing after a break.
  • Match players who want to rehearse a single pattern, such as a backhand return, under repeatable conditions.
  • Coaches and students who want more hitting volume between lessons.

It is less useful for learning tactics or movement against an opponent. For that, pair machine work with a coaching session or a practice match.

How much does ball machine hire cost?

Prices across Manila vary by venue, and many clubs only quote them by message. Slice Club's booking preview shows a ball-machine add-on at ₱300 an hour, with balls available as a separate add-on. Final rates can change before launch, so check the booking page for the current figure.

The planned annual membership includes one complimentary ball-machine hour each month, worth ₱300 at preview rates. See the membership page for the full list of benefits.

Drills to run in your first hour

Keep the machine slow and the ball high until your contact feels clean. Then raise the pace.

  1. Cross-court forehands (10 minutes). Start with 20 balls, then reset your stance. Aim for a spot about a metre inside the baseline.
  2. Cross-court backhands (10 minutes). Repeat the same targets on the other side.
  3. Alternating sides (15 minutes). Use the oscillating setting so you must recover and re-set your feet between shots.
  4. Volleys (10 minutes). Step in a few metres and block the ball back with a short, firm swing.
  5. Serve return (10 minutes). Raise the speed and focus on a compact swing and early preparation.
  6. Cool-down (5 minutes). Slow the feed and finish on shots that feel good.

Count how many of the first ten balls land in. That number gives you something to beat next time.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Setting the pace too high. Fast balls teach rushing. Slow down until the technique holds.
  • Hitting without a target. Place a towel or cone on the court so each ball has a purpose.
  • Skipping the warm-up. The machine does not wait. Start with a few easy balls.
  • Ignoring fatigue. Quality drops long before you notice. Rest between baskets.

How to add a ball machine to your booking

Once court bookings open, the intended flow is:

  1. Open the booking flow and choose the date, court and start time.
  2. Select the ball machine in the add-ons step. It is charged per hour.
  3. Add balls or racket rental if you need them.
  4. Confirm and keep your booking details for arrival.

The club is not open yet. Once it opens, the planned 24-hour court access would allow early-morning or late-night machine practice; check the booking page for confirmed hours and availability.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring my own balls?

Check the add-ons at checkout. Balls can be added to your booking.

Can a beginner use a ball machine?

Yes. Start with a slow feed, a high bounce and a single shot. A short lesson first can help you set up your swing.

Is a ball machine better than a hitting partner?

They do different jobs. A machine offers repetition and consistency. A partner offers unpredictability and match feel. Most players benefit from both.

Is the ball machine included in membership?

The planned membership includes one complimentary ball-machine hour each month.
